Nuance - Nuance swings to quarterly loss

Nuance after Tuesday's closing bell reported a third-quarter net loss of $9.42 million, or 6 cents a share, as operating expenses almost doubled. In the same period last year, the Burlington, Mass.-based provider of speech and imaging technology posted net earnings of $160,000, or breakeven on a per-share basis. Excluding non-cash taxes and interest, among other items, the company reported per-share earnings of 11 cents compared with 5 cents last year. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call had expected per-share earnings of 9 cents. Quarterly revenue rose to $113.1 million vs. $56.8 million. Analysts had forecast revenue of $118.6 million
